My First Crush at School: Reflections on Childhood Love

Daily writing prompt
Write about your first crush.

I was just a little girl, maybe 7 years old, and we had just transferred me to a different school. The school that started my true love for learning, and would be the foundation of where I am today. But enough of that, we are here to talk about Austin.

Austin was in my class from day one, and boy was he a pain my butt. Making fun of my last name all the time, and my chin. Let me explain that one. For a girl, I have a very prominent chin that dates back to my great great grandfather, and no one else in my family has it. On either side. I got the genes for it though.

Anyways all the musings over those things never bothered me and I laughed also, Because what could I do? Be mad for being me? Nah, I ain’t like that. He was annoying with it all though. And it still never changed the fact that I thought he was cute. I thought he was really cute.

Our relationship was just that though, friends, and admirers from afar for years till we hit middle school. When we had to pick people in class for whatever reason, Austin and I would always pick each other. If we ever by each other in class…. we would always get in trouble from being too loud. It seemed like we were always looking at each other and he would flash me his smile and that would be that. My little girl heart was undone.

Looking back now, I am glad we never became anything more than friends. I value the type of friendship we had and crush I had on without messing any of it up. He was a great boy growing up. I hope he is doing well.
